Wording

Wording on invitations, like the invitations themselves can be as unique as you.  While there are traditional approaches and phrases that you can use, you should also consider the words that best suit your style and preference.

This section contains a selection of wording across as many different styles as I could find and I am regularly updating it to give you the best choice.

There are very few books dedicated only to wedding invitation wording, but for the more traditional approaches I would recommend consulting a book on wedding etiquette.  Debretts Correct Form or Simple, Stunning Wedding Etiquette are two good choices.

Invitation: If the ceremony is at a place of worship, then the wording used is “the honor of your prescence”, if its being held in a hotel or garden (or elsewhere), then the recommended wording is “the pleasure of your company”.

Time of Wedding: Is written in long hand – so “1pm” is written as “one o’clock in the afternoon”.

Reception or Breakfast: If the reception is held after 1pm, then its called a ‘reception’.  If its held before this, then its a ‘breakfast’

Family : Thankfully, there are some great resources available to help you to determine whose names should be included (or not) on wedding invitation wording, depending on your particular family situation.
